CD Covers

What is the Brief really asking?
A promotional pack for the release of an album to include a music promo video together with a cover for its release as part of a digipak - (what is a digipak?) and a magazine advertisement for the digipak.
A digipak is a style CD or DVD cover like a book

The Cover has to follow the brand of the band Green Day is of the same genre as my music Pop Punk therefore my brand has to follow the same kind of style as this band or bands alike this. I will need to watch there music videos and analysis them to understand what the genres really like and what the bands stand for. I have learnt that bands such as Green Day stand for liberty and freedom.

A summary of this video is that there are many different types of CD covers one is called a digipak This is the most common kind of CD cover and is shown throughout the video. according to the brief this is the type of the album cover I need to design. However, there are other cd covers such as Slim lines, slim double, paper, clamshells, jewels and FL Pack. Nevertheless, a definition of digipaks from my secondary research confirms my theory:

Digipak: This type is made of cardboard with a plastic molded tray attached to it. The cardboard case allows for screen printing and the interior sleeve has a place for a booklet to be inserted. Some digipaks have gatefold flaps that fold over to cover the CD from both sides.

Timeline of The music industry:

1980- Compact Disk (CD) invented
1982 - CDs usable on PC
!988- CDs took over Vinyl
1990- recordable CDs available
2000- iTunes was invented
Thus CD's have not sold as well since so soon they will become like Vinyl rare and unheard of. However, Vinyl has a possibility of a comback as they are vintage.  In my opinion I prefer CDs as it easier to illegally download music from web 2.0 and as a possible future artist of music I would be less likely to make a profit from people freely taking my music instead of buying it on a CD in a store or from iTunes. Nevertheless, technology has to move on and even if people illegally download music it is free advertising for the artist. Last year Ed Sheerans music was the most illegally downloaded music therefore more people will want to buy as well to see why so many people need it.

However the fact that most people download music without paying for it has made concerts more expensive as the artists and record labels need to make money.
